Currently there are three outside venues where members may display their work. Please see below for specific venue guidelines. Coordinators will notify the membership via e-mail when display opportunities become available. You may contact coordinators by e-mail: outsidevenues@artsociety.ca, mentioning the specific coordinator’s name in the subject line or body of the e-mail.
Venue: Pelican Rouge Cafe
Address: 15142 North Bluff Rd, White Rock, BC, V4B-5M1
Coordinator: Caroline Baasch (cbaasch@shaw.ca)
Venue description: The owners, Dianne and Helen, have generously offered wall space for SSWRAS members. The “art wall” is separated by pillars resulting in three separate but adjacent, areas along the length of the wall. Two of the areas measure approximately 8.5 feet x 4.5 feet and the third is approximately 5.5 feet x 4.5 feet. The walls are painted dark blue. It is up to the displaying artist to decide if they wish to utilize the entire space or if they would like to share it.
Dates: Works are displayed for one month at a time and a waiting list to display is maintained by the coordinator. You will be contacted with further instructions one month prior to your scheduled show.
Payment: Pelican Rouge will handle all sales and take a 20% commission on all sales.
Venue: The Peninsula Medical Clinic
Address: #109-15388 24th Street Surrey, BC V4A 2J2
Coordinators: Tammy Bailey and Karen Huckell
Venue description: Paintings are in the waiting area. Display averages 15 paintings, approximately 12x16’. The is space for one large painting – 30x36”
Dates: Changeover is determined by clinic, approximately every four months and occurs after clinic hours, usually around 6:30 pm. The changeover requires that artists pick up and drop off their work in a timely manner. The Clinic is a small space and the owner has stayed late to accommodate us so socializing is discouraged. Hanging Guidelines: Paintings will only be hung if securely framed and wired for hanging with D-rings. Gallery wrap frames are permitted. Coordinators create painting labels using the SSWRAS label template with the following information: name of painting, medium, framed size, price, artist’s name, artist’s phone number. Payment: If a painting sells the artist will be called by the buyer to arrange a meeting time using contact information on the painting’s label. Please contact the coordinator in advance with meeting details so clinic can be notified. The artist may replace the sold painting with a new one. Payment can be cash or a cheque made out to the SSWRAS. Funds are submitted to our treasurer (contact: treasurer@artsociety.ca), and a cheque is sent to the artist with society commission deducted.
Venue: White Rock Playhouse
Address: 1532 Johnson Rd, White Rock, BC V4B 3Z7
Coordinators: Cheryl Vandenberg, Rita Dahlie, and Linda Morris
Venue description: The lobby area of the theatre accommodates up to 17 paintings dependent on size. Larger paintings (over 3 feet) may take up two spots on the walls. Paintings are hung suspended on chains.
Dates: A changeover of paintings occurs every three months. There is a limit of one painting per artist per three-month period. The artists drop off paintings at a designated time and the coordinators carefully hang the paintings and try to create a gallery-like appearance.
Hanging Guidelines: Please include four bumpers on back of painting, and attach wire 1/3 from top of picture. Hanging point will be 2 1/2” below top of picture. A label will be attached, please provide coordinators with: name of painting, framed size, medium, artist name and contact number.
Payment: If a painting is sold the interested party contacts the artist. The cheque is made out to SSWRAS and submitted to our treasurer (contact: treasurer@artsociety.ca). In turn a cheque is sent to the artist with commission deducted.
